Should be good since they received the Tech Crunch top 50 award.

Re: Yammer: Yet Another Messaging Service

Nick - glad to hear that someone else had much the same response on hearing that Yammer were judged to be TC50 winners.

To be honest, though, I was pretty underwhelmed with the majority (but not all) of the TC50 offerings, as most seemed to be more like a single element of a larger product.

There were one or two standout (and stand-alone) products that excited me, but overall I was quite disappointed. Heyho, I guess it was different if you were there and got to see the demos and no doubt some will grow into "real" products (eg Xobni).

(Sorry, went a bit OT there!)

Re: Yammer: Yet Another Messaging Service

I have to agree with you on this one. I'm waiting on a service that really alleviates some issue in my life, which, at this point, does not involve an inability to be more social. In truth, I'm not that social offline and I've realized that I'm the same person online as well. :-) I am, however, an information junkie and I value such services as twitter because the majority of the people I follow link to interesting articles and maybe make a quick comment that makes me want to know more. Other than that, I'm just waiting on someone to really push the envelope.

Re: Yammer: Yet Another Messaging Service

One of the benefits of using a system other than email is persistence of data for all users to see. Information is trapped inside emails that may be valuable to others that can search on the information in a public system.

Re: Yammer: Yet Another Messaging Service

Nick,

E-mail is a great digital messaging tool but in many cases a short instant-message could be better than clogging up someone's in-box.
