  • Anthony,

Great post, I could not agree more. I have been amazed at how since I started really using social media tools like FB and to a larger extent Twitter how it has facilitated me actually meeting more people in person than I would have before. It continues to amaze me. I have already developed some really nice relationships with people in the local crowd and my nline activities has only enhanced them.
I point to the post ( http://tinyurl.com/2255w5 ) by Aaron Brazel (technolsailor) about relationships in the internet world.

  • Sounds more like 'professional networking' than 'social networking'. Perhaps social networks 'enhance' the social lives of socially awkward people, but the net result of social networks is probably negative on quality social interaction.
  • I love the convergence of online and F2F networking, whether strictly social, professional, or a combination of the two. However, I do find it amusing when someone adds me as a Facebook or LinkedIn friend and then barely recognizes me when we meet F2F.

So, my one piece of advice would be: Take the time to get to know people in the flesh as well as online--don't let a robust online network take the place of real, meaningful F2F connections.
