Though a neat concept and platform design, the timeline aspect doesn't work as well for my brain... it's too disjointed to see quickly at-a-glance what's going on. I like scanning my vertical Twitter feed.

Plus, I didn't see too many high level conversations going on... yet. It seems mostly a slew of global early adopters (heavy on the teens/twentysomethings) chitchatting about... um, er nothing much. :)

We'll see, but I imagine Plurk could reach the tipping point with a certain demographic sooner than later because of the many cool features. I just doubt I'll be there ... much.

Re: Is Plurk an Alternative to Twitter?

Yeah, I have to agree that I as well am on microblogging overload and the increasing need to do it as well as lifestream is becoming more of a time killer than something positive.

I also agree with chayaldora though that Plurk feels like a big chat room.

While I'm undecided about my use on Plurk, for the moment it seems to be interesting. I'll follow the trend as it happens and either pick up use or drop it to go back to Twitter.

Re: Is Plurk an Alternative to Twitter?

@Francine, totally agree .. I'm on microblogging overload as well!

Re: Is Plurk an Alternative to Twitter?

naaaah, I don't care about Plurk. It's cute, but Twitter is functional. For sending photos and videos, there's Pownce. I'm on microblogging overload :-)

Re: Is Plurk an Alternative to Twitter?

i like it. i use twitter primarily because it's mobile and as a mother of a 6 mo. old, so am i. but plurk is fun to sit down to for a while. if *feels* more like a giant chat room to me than a micro-blogging site but i have a feeling they're working on some changes that will add simplicity and hopefully even mobile functionality.

for now, i would consider myself an early adopter -- i jumped on the plurk bandwagon because i'm sick of waiting for a jaiku invite. we'll see where it all goes. and maybe i'll fall off the bandwagon before long. after all, i don't have a lot of time for sitting at my pc. i even BLOG from my phone. :p

Re: Is Plurk an Alternative to Twitter?

Yeah, I think Plurk is a good alternative to Twitter :)

Re: Is Plurk an Alternative to Twitter?

The interface is definitely hip, and the timeline functionality is cool (something that could be added to Twitter or done via its API), but there just might be too much going on. And with all the dropdowns and options, it takes too much thinking to post.

The Karma points are interesting, but ultimately I don't really care about that kind of thing when it comes to a communication medium.

I like that people are innovating and I appreciate much of what Plurk is doing, but in the end, the whole point of micro-blogging/micro-communication is that it's quick, simple, easy. Plurk just feels a bit bloated to me.

Re: Is Plurk an Alternative to Twitter?

Nick~ You're not the only one who has spent an absurd amount of time on Plurk. I had so much fun last night on Plurk that I didn't go to bed till midnight and I am wayyyyy to old for that! I am really leaning toward liking Plurk more than Twitter for the fact that it has the emoticons, video, pics and most of all....cliques that I can group my friends into. Fabulous! Again, I find myself asking....."why didn't I think of this?"
