Ironically, if you try actually using the 0.8 container on Hi5 at the moment your application content is replaced with a nice text tag, 'opensocial-0.8'.
The REST API is also not available outside of the beta sandbox yet.
I'd say the announcement is a little premature at this point...
Also interesting to note that the actual container being used on Hi5 is still the 0.7
