Started by Nick O'Neill · 10 months ago

This past weekend, while most people were away enjoying the beginning of summer, uber-geeks sat around and discussed the ongoing troubles facing Twitter and how FriendFeed would deal the final death blow. • I use both twitter & friendfeed. Over the weekend I evaluated the rooms on friendfeed but I don't see it as a twitter killer, it's more like a google reader social site mashup than a conversation site like twitter.

I'm just surprised how many people use twitter and has used it to grow their personal network and traffic on blogs but now that twitter is having some growing pains everyone wants to turn there back on twitter.

    not good

I'm @waynesutton on twitter and I'm having growing pains too.

    Good post.
  • I use both as well. I am interested in understanding why one is gaining dominance or traction while the other is not. The story is unfolding before us and it is an interesting case.....

Any thoughts on why Twitter is gaining release velocity?
  • I use both but I think it's about critical mass. Twitter has the critical mass of users, so no matter how disgruntled they are, it's very hard to move when all your friends are on Twitter. Making a mass move of a great number of people all at once is probably not going to happen. As popular as Facebook has become for many, Myspace still has many more users because they have critical mass, especially among a certain demographic market.
  • Unless I completely misunderstood them, Twitter has almost nothing to do with FriendFeed. The first is a microblog with social network. The second is feed aggregator. Why should they fight each other? Plus: I could be wrong, but I don't see anything FrienfFeed does that Netvibes couldn't do better.
