Social Times: Facebook Connect: OpenID Without the Email

  • Doug Anderson · 9 months ago
I agree with the lack of contact data being a major issue. We were analyzing the possibility of using connect for our referral based rewards program. However, the user's need an email or a phone number in order to collect their points. This forces a two-step approach to get the user signed up.

Besides, it still seems quite buggy. Just to leave this post has been like getting my teeth pulled, as facebook seems to be crashing at the moment... plus my user data isn't even coming though on this comment.

Oh well, good idea in concept I suppose.

Hi Nick good point about the lack of data from Facebook Connect. I guess if you think of the same issue from a user's perspective, you might see a diffent picture. I have blogged about it from a social networking user's perspective. Love to know your thoughts:

Ditto. Lack of user email is a big issue.

Is this still the case or has anything changed since the article was posted over a year ago?
