Disqus “Out Opened” My Comments!

I have previously been critical of Disqus, the blog commenting platform. I just implemented Disqus on my blog after thinking about it for a few days. It's not been an easy decision - mostly due to the "giving up your comment ownership" aspect of it.

You are right though - there are just too many plusses.

Several blogging platforms offer up an RSS feed for comments. You could house the comments locally, and then import that RSS feed into friendfeed.

Didn't realize that comments were stored on disqus! When I installed it didn't preserve any of my past comments, and I've sent an email to their help.

You raise some good points. I like disqus, and hope they recise it accordingly!

Data owneship is really a risk. Now is OK, but what if they decide to close down their service in a year or two?

Beside this risk, their service is OK.

So now that it has been a few months, have you noticed an increase in traffic since you switched to disqus? Has it been a positive? Would you suggest to others that they should integrate their blogs with disqus?

While Disqus is still an extremely early-stage service, it appears that they are gaining substantial traction and slowly one blog after the other that I use is integrating it into their site.

I really noticed that blogs with disqus plugin are quite active in their community, I mean through commenting.. and it also means that they were receiving a fair traffic on their site.
