It all depends on your goal... I would agree that becoming the next Scoble is not going to happen. However, if you are looking to communicate with other folks around the world on a niche topic of mutual interest and passion --- by all means.
Overall, one size doesn't fit all. Some may blog or utilize other digital tools. Bottom Line - in most instances, participating in some kind of social media is better than sitting on the sidelines.

This is funny. Saying that blogging is dead is relative to saying newspapers or IPOD is dead. Anybody that relates to blogs as physical vs. intellectual property can make this claim. Content never dies and never will unless human being stops thinking. Blogging is evolving as seen being embedded, linked, wiki, etc. I heard Bill Gates refer to Blogpod vs. podcast to accommodate all types of data -video, music, voice and text. Data being blogged or shared is universal and has evolved from a one to two dimensional type medium. Data stored in databases used to be hierarchical - now indexed, optimized, star schemed, and networked/exchanged across different platforms on different networks. Blogging is no different, it just got utilized differently with more complex technologies. Perhaps a new metric is needed to gauge how blogs are being used ?.

Ludicrous comment. How can blogging be dead when the blogging community is thriving. Just because it's more difficult to establish yourself in terms of the monetarised super-blogs doesn't mean that blogging is out of date. "tsunamis of paid bilge" are possbily what you'll find if you march sheep-like into the jaws of top 100 list...you need to go onto a search engine or twitter and actually search for a blog that covers your niche

Blogs are dead my eye. Yeah you have to be creative and I recommend using lots of video because that's what people want, but blogs are very much still alive and kicking. I'd also advise bloggers to utilize online resources like Adwido to get free exposure for their blogs.
