Bebo Games Official Launch: The Next Frontier for Virtual Goods?
Yes. And this will look very much like the history of democracy in Europe.
Developers have one advantage however: the ubiquity and richness of open source platforms, both on the client and server side. They might not be as sleek, but they provide enough functionality to totally ignore the big companies. If these companies think they can hold onto any power, they're wrong, and they'll feel it.
Mobile is still a little weak on the client, which is why Apple has a nice position with the iPhone. But this too will be gone in a few years.
Facebook seems like a bad joke nowadays... They're not part of the future. The only thing they have is a database, and either they let the data out, or people will put the same data in somewhere else. The end result is the same.
Enterprise platforms will always lag behind. People who're still into "making money" don't get openness and freedom as well as people who are in the social media space. So I give Salesforce a few more years as well.
